Hermosa Village, formerly known as Jeffrey-Lynne, is a five-square-block area of apartments just west of the Disneyland Hotel and home to about 4,000 people. It has been targeted for cleanup efforts by the city and police because of the gang violence and drug sales plaguing its streets.

“The Lord gave me a burden for this community 14 years ago when I first started teaching at a nearby school where many of the students from the community attend. I was overwhelmed by the stories of former students getting involved with drugs, gangs, and facing the hardships of teen pregnancy. For years I had been praying that God would send His people to love and minister to these kids. Well, I had no idea 14 years later the Lord would be sending me. I am now going down to Hermosa every Friday to do a weekly outreach with the kids at the community center that is run by a boys and girls club, Project Access. We play sports like street hockey, soccer, and football and then lead them in a time of worship and Bible study. We are blessed to have Robert Ornelas, front man for the rap/hip-hop group, The S.O.G. Crew, come share with the kids this Friday.”

“North Orange County is where we grew up. Anaheim, CA is where I raise my kids. Most of the kids in the Disneyland area attend school with my sons. When we were asked to come and speak to the community, it was an automatic yes. We have been reaching out to our city of Anaheim since 1998. Our Hip-Hop group would host an annual youth event at Pearson Park Amphitheater as a way to give back to the streets. It is my duty in life to encourage these kids and to remind them that we also came from these same streets. As doors of opportunity opens up for us around the world, we never lose focus of the original plan. God comes first for us, family, our city and then the rest of the world. Much love and respect to all those that are taking time out of their own lives to give back to the youth. Good job.”
